Santa Rosa schools reopen with deep changes. It was a flurry of activity at my house this morning. We’re getting back into the school routine. The new year begins after a round of school closures, staff layoffs, and budget restructuring that included eliminating secondary co-teaching classes to save $1.6M in special education costs. KSRO

Extra patrols around schools this week. Leave for those drop-offs extra early. SRPD is stepping up enforcement in school zones for back-to-school week, urging drivers to slow down around campuses through Friday. KSRO

Sonoma County wine enters year five of decline. Vineyard sales, declining property values, consolidations, layoffs, and unsold grapes continue across the county's wine industry, now in its fifth consecutive year of contraction. North Bay Bohemian

Ukiah pug wins World's Ugliest Dog. Six-year-old rescue pug Jinny Lu, originally from South Korea, took top honors Friday at the Sonoma County Fair. KSRO
