Hey Friends,

Honestly, I'm definitely not ready, not sure about you, but the holiday season is showing up early this weekend. Wasn't it JUST Halloween? There are craft fairs in Santa Rosa and Petaluma on Friday and Saturday, and Sebastopol's first Cranksgiving turns a Saturday bike ride into Thanksgiving groceries for the food bank.

In this week's Signal:

  • Signal Check: Gas down 11¢ on the week, and the highs are holding.

  • The Roundup: Finding History Day, Frozen at SRJC and Sonoma's Lighting of the Plaza.

  • Business Happenings: Cozy Plum's last month and Underwood's new owners.

  • The Weekend: The Harvest Festival, Cranksgiving, the Wine & Food Affair and Patti LaBelle.

  • Live Music, One Glance: 10 acts from Healdsburg to Petaluma.

The Roundup

Finding History Day. The fifth annual free event runs Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm, at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building, with more than 40 regional organizations, genealogy help and behind-the-scenes footage from Alfred Hitchcock's Santa Rosa movie sets. The Sonoma Coast Historical and Undersea Nautical Research Society will show its shipwreck work along the Sonoma and Mendocino coasts, including the recent recording of a 1918 steam schooner mast near Salmon Creek. Disney's Frozen at SRJC. Theatre Arts opens Frozen, The Broadway Musical, on Friday and runs it through Nov. 22 in the Main Stage Theatre at Burbank Auditorium, with evening shows at 7:30 pm and matinees at 10 am, 2 pm and 3 pm. Tickets are on sale now, and sing-along performances are set for Nov. 14 and Nov. 21. SRJC

Sonoma's Lighting of the Plaza. Mark Saturday, Nov. 21, 5 to 8 pm, for this free gathering on the square, hosted by the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau. Marina Crouse, Clairdee and Spike Sikes and his Awesome Hotcakes play sets, Transcendence Theatre Company brings a Broadway Holiday performance, and Folklorico Quetzalen adds regional folk music. Business Happenings

Farewell: Cozy Plum — the plant-based Sebastopol restaurant closes Nov. 28 after nearly seven years, and the owners of Shogun plan handmade Chinese dumplings and noodles in the space by February 2027. (KSRO)

Sold: Underwood Bar & Bistro — one of my favorites, the Graton institution changes hands after 24 years, going to the owners of Healdsburg's Lo & Behold. (Sonoma Magazine)

The Weekend

🚴 Cranksgiving Sebastopol

There are worse ways to kick off the holidays than giving to others, especially alongside people who also want to give back.

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels, and Saturday is Sebastopol's first one. Riders of all ages and abilities get a list of the ingredients for a Thanksgiving dinner, then pick their own route between local grocers to find them. There's no set course. At the finish, everything goes to the Redwood Empire Food Bank, followed by an awards ceremony.

It started in 1999 as a friendly competition among New York City bike messengers, and it now generates more than a million meals a year nationally. This one comes from the people behind Trashlantis. Entry is free, but bring $20–$30 for the groceries, and sign up early.
