The Roundup

Landline's "Straight to Gate" service to SFO. Wow, same prices as the Airporter (aka Groome now), but more direct. Starting November 10, you can check in, drop your bags and clear TSA at the Sonoma County Airport, then ride a Landline coach straight onto the SFO tarmac with no second security line. There will be eight daily round trips, adult fares start at $55, kids 15 and under ride free, and it connects to United, Alaska, Hawaiian and JetBlue flights. KSRO

Rosie the redwood stays standing. Good news for tree lovers. The Santa Rosa Planning Commission voted 3–2 last Thursday to uphold a neighborhood appeal blocking removal of the 70-foot redwood. Its roots have badly damaged the sidewalk next to it, so the property owners still have to fix the walkway with the tree in place, and they can appeal to the City Council. KSRO

SRJC's Green Living Fair. Let’s keep more junk out of the landfills. Sustainable SRJC's fair on October 22 is open to community members and is all about repair and reuse. There's a garment mending bar, a clothing swap, bike repair, small appliance repair and freecycle giveaways, so bring a garment or a bike that needs work. SRJC

Free toilets from Santa Rosa Water. Who doesn’t like free? Santa Rosa Water customers can get free water-efficient toilets and water-saving devices through the city's WaterSmart program. Fill out the prequalification form on the city's page to see if you qualify. City of Santa Rosa

Halloween in Sonoma County

Our Halloween guide is updated through October 31: pumpkin patches and corn mazes, apples and cider donuts, Día de los Muertos, spooky places, where to trick-or-treat, nights out, and the full calendar of dates.

Business Happenings

Opening Saturday: Rowan at Montgomery Village — The ear-piercing chain opens its first North Bay location on October 17, with piercing by licensed nurses. Cabuya Yoga and Great Company, a home decor and party supply boutique, opened there recently, and Madewell arrives in 2027. (Press Democrat)

Now open: Bruce Shimizu's sake brewery — The 69-year-old fourth-generation Japanese American opened his Windsor brewery as a tribute to his great-grandmother, who brewed sake in a Cotati basement and was sent to an internment camp during World War II. He's also building a public Japanese Garden at Paradise Ridge Winery, set to open later this year. (Sonoma Magazine)
