Monte Rio Redwoods Park. Mountain bikers now have nearly 30 miles of trails across a 1,517-acre addition that quadrupled the West County park's size. Most routes are intermediate, while the introductory 2.3-mile loop still packs 600 feet of climbing through redwoods and old logging roads. Sonoma Magazine

Sonoma County Fair. It’s back! This was a highlight when I was a kid going to fair. Free Clover Sonoma ice cream is back every day during the Fair's 10-day Santa Rosa run after a multi-year hiatus. The fair closes Aug. 16. KSRO

Jack London State Historic Park. I love this part, but don’t get there enough. The ruins are fun to walk through and imagine what it was like. The Glen Ellen park is celebrating Jack London's 150th birthday all year, after welcoming 93,350 visitors in 2025. Its 2,200-plus acres include an orchard with eight varieties of fruit trees, while 250 volunteers logged 15,200 hours there last year. Sonoma Magazine

Worth a stop: Sarmentine Bakery. Alexandra Teulet turns out several hundred sweet crepes and savory buckwheat galettes a day in Petaluma, using the Breton technique she learned at a crepe school in Saint-Malo. (Sonoma Magazine)
